Hong Kong day 1

view a random?

Arrived in Hong Kong this morning, after 11 hours in the air, very little sleep, a roast lamb dinner, several Steinlagers, many movies and a hotcake breakfast. The meals on our flight were surprisingly pleasant.

I’ve not been in Hong Kong long, but I’ve been impressed with excellent customs processing; highly efficient, easy to use and understand train systems and lots of good cheap food! We grabbed some supplies from a supermarket and found NZ wine on special, with no liquor tax and NZ cheese seems as cheap expensive here as it is in Wellington, NZ.

We left Wellington at the end of a beautiful sunny calm day, the debut day of the music festival. I got up before 7am and went for a row at Petone. Pretty nice row; clocked up around 20Km in a coxless four. The downside of this is that I am exhausted now; we are about to go for a walk around Hong Kong waterfront, or something. Maybe catch a movie or something later; trying to stay up as nothing seems to open here before 11am!

Almost everything here is in English and Cantonese, which is handy for me, but I think knowing some Cantonese would go a long way.
