Facebook maintenance

I suspect that Facebook is often doing some sort of maintenance, the network is expanding quickly and the growth would be difficult to scale. I suspect that as Facebook matures, they will come up with a way to scale or maintain without shutting out users, applications and developers.

I am blaming server connection issues on failing to scale fast enough, or trying to scale without any server redundancy. The general consensus seems to be “who cares” it is just a fun social network and I obviously spend to much time there - but that is exactly what you want you users not to think.

That is the sort of product immaturity I am often seeing in Facebook. It seems that Mark Zuckerberg was in the right place with the right idea at the right time; will his luck continue to flow? I’d expect that a greater interest in open standard movements might be more beneficial to the Facebook empire than he believes. Facebook is not interested in the Open Social framework (and some of the criticism of that framework is warranted), the semantic web (believing that application developers will implement it for him if it is wanted)… Ok most people would go along with Mark, but the internet of the future is going to be much less website centric and perhaps even web browsers will become obsolete. The web applications that don’t join the movements may discover the next big thing can’t even visit.
