Kiwi makeover for Grand Theft Auto

This article is a little silly… why would the NZ Police prosecute a 17 year old for skinning Grand Theft Auto?

It is illegal in NZ to use the NZ insignia or uniform for unauthorised purposes… and my views are a little liberal I suppose. But this kid isn’t designing a training simulation for para-military activities, they should consider this stuff private use - or consider taking royalties if the skin is used for commercial gain. It is unlikely to make much, GTA is a very popular game; but this skin is for GTA 3 and skins only work with the PC version of the game.

Grand Theft Auto 4 will be released at the end of April 2008.

    Hey guys,

    im that little 17 year old everyones been talking about, im pissing myself laughin rite now cos everyone is getting so worked up about this. Stupid beauracy lol.

    And your absoulutley right im not going to use it comercially and will be annoyed if anyone did. its just for people who want to play a new zealand type game, or close to.

    What would be a good idea is for companies like Coke, V, or MTV to build their own GTA skins…

    Any business would be able to market themselves quickly by putting together a cool skin… you can also alter things like bill boards, or gravity. Things you might have done to make the game more fun or slightly different, more or less challenging… ultimately also tying in your corporate brand.
