Hedgehog’s blog vs Seth’s Blog

They both basically say the same thing… neither really go looking for resumes. Though comments in both blogs represent the fact that many of us don’t have a network where we are looking for work. I’m interested in working in Europe; I currently live in New Zealand.

According to these bloggers, perhaps I should approach blogging in a more professional manner and develop a network of contacts around the world to satisfy my every travel whim? Sounds simple, at least these days; but I guess most people are happy enough placing their resume in the pile and getting a reasonably paid corporate job.

I suspect that most people would like to be offered employment through their existing networks. I agree that it would be nice to be recognised, respected, but the world is a pretty big stage. Sometimes even the best and brightest step down and place a resume (CV) on the pile. Sure, it’s an excuse to be rejected, but without my resume how’d you know that I was actually respected around the world and can solve your particular problem, better and faster than anyone else? I’m also a great drinking partner, and can help sort out your teams cholesterol problem… if they want.

Sure it’s easier to employ someone you met and a LUG, JUG or MUG meeting; or even a friend of a friend. But that person might not be the best person for your job… only you didn’t look, so you don’t care.
