Missed out on the senior 8+ and the premier 4-, due to free beer. Never underestimate the power of free beer!

Tomorrow I’m planning to spend all day watching the racing - will not have the ability to post, but will update via twitter; you should be able to see the updates here.

The races I wanted to see, the men’s senior 8+ and the premier men’s 4-, looked very exciting. Though it seems the afternoons difficult water conditions did not subside.

In the prem men’s four, Trott, Meyer, Bond and Bridgewater put 6 seconds on Scott, Dallinger, Murray, Boswell. Who, in turn had 2 seconds on Cottle, Hammond, Hellstrom, Twaddle.. making it a very close race, though slow by international times - 2 seconds represents perhaps a seat.. or perhaps 2 meters lead… not much considering the distance covered. Though all of the top 3 boats seats were filled by current international representatives.

In the senior men’s 8, the medals went to Auckland 1st, Hawkes bay 2nd and Waikato 3rd. I also notice that Wellington came 4th only 4seconds back and Cambridge 5th. I think this is a very good performance by Wellington considering the experience and strength sitting in the Cambridge boat and the times obviously do not do justice to the race. Though such difficult conditions can make placings something of a lottery.

Hopefully conditions improve for tomorrow, as all of New Zealand and possibly several international observers will be interested to see how a number of key events play out!! I should be online by 10am for saturdays finals. Here is the day sheet for friday and saturday according to Rob Bristow.

The first event for Saturday is event 31, starting 8:20am, the Men’s club 2x.
