I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 series laptop; which I have used for several purposes in recent years… typically with Linux installed, with or over windows. Linux is a happy OS, though I’ve never required the use of a modem…
Windows is the pain - it always over-writes the boot sector with windows mumbo-jumbo and it never partitions the disk satisfactorily.
Now it turns out that I can’t even connect to the ethernet without a toshiba driver?? So I tried to create a new boot disk from the toshiba system repair CD… this claims that the computer isn’t a Toshiba notebook! Argh! I even had to find a USB disk reader and buy a new floppy disk to write the boot floppy (I was surprised to see you could still buy floppy disks - I guess they are in stock for emergencies like mine).
So, it seems I can’t load windows (to a completely usable state), because it lacks the system drivers and I can’t re-install the factory OS because I installed other stuff that used up the factory install section of the harddrive . The factory OS could be anything really - but it is windows, in most cases.
This is the second time I’ve run into this stupid issue with factory boot disks… why do they have to install shit on the Harddisk? They should come with a big warning sign: Don’t buy me - I will end up wasting more time than I’m worth… or I cause cancer and make you infertile… something like that.
Hopefully trying again will help - with the thing plugged into the internet, and finger crossed it can work out it is a lan connection! I don’t need or want Windows installeed on it, but I am selling it to my less computer literate brother; who’d prefer a PC that he can plug his phone/camera/itunes into and it will work… or his mates can help him with.
BTW: I found the satanic church website, you’ll notice that they do use Windows .NET, thus proving winodws to be a satanic product.
