QA whinge

view a random?

This post is about QA process - ours sux. There are several contributing factors, most seriously absolutely no developer buy in to the process and perhaps just as seriously, or perhaps the same thing, no champion of the process. When we were consulted about the process we were not given a say and the opposite of our suggestion was implemented.

The result is that the process is basically not followed and still bogs down our development process such that almost no real work is carried out.

So what would I like implemented? Firstly, something that requires very little extra work - we check code in, we comment the changes and we fill in the bug reports. I think these processes should be linked so a bug always contains history of code changes that can be viewed by developers, testers, analysts and management. And the source repository history items should simply refer to the related bug reports. I believe subversion offers a satisfactory mechanism for this task, but I don’t see CVS as being that inferior in these points. I would prefer to have nothing to do with Rational, or Source Safe. Rational is a waste of time (and money). Source safe is a glorified directory browser, with little more functionality.
